Existing trees work with a new outbuilding to screen and reveal the approach. A large apple tree, part of the remnants of an old orchard, becomes a focal point in the forecourt, being framed also from within by the kitchen window. To the rear the main living spaces are oriented around a Southwest facing sun trap, the exposed site sheltered by the single-storey rear return. Long views lead from here down to the river at the bottom of the site.
